Fred Miller at
his finest . . . . .
Fred Miller was
the supply officer for the Outlaws and was just about the biggest
thief in that
capacity the U.S. Army ever encountered.
I received orders
to the Chicago, IL area as my next assignment following Vietnam and one
afternoon
Fred approached
me as to the possibilities of making a trade. He informed me he
might have access
to one of the arctic type flight jackets - complete with fur-lined hood-
and was wondering
if I might be interested in one due to the weather regards my next assignment.
One bottle of
genuine Johnny Walker Black later and I was the proud new owner of said
arctic flight jacket.
Fred had lots
of them.
In Vietnam.
10 degrees north
of the equator.
He allowed as
to how it must have been an administrative error on the part of his predecessor.
Fred generally
flew Outlaw 19 - Wooly Bully - but we were flying Outlaw 14
The Swamp Rat
on this scrounging
mission to the big city very near the end of my tour.
